Integrate Opsgenie with Graylog (Plugin)

Graylog logo

What does Opsgenie offer Graylog users?

Opsgenie has a specific alert plugin for Graylog. Use this plugin for Graylog to send stream alerts to Opsgenie with detailed information. Opsgenie acts as a dispatcher for Graylog alerts, determines the right people to notify based on on-call schedules– notifies via email, text messages (SMS), phone calls and iPhone & Android push notifications, and escalates alerts until the alert is acknowledged or closed.

This article explains integrating Graylog with a plugin, which is a standard procedure for Graylog v2 and earlier versions. If you’re using a newer version go to Integrate Opsgenie with Graylog v3 and above.

Functionality of the integration

  • When an alert is created in Graylog, an alert is also created in Opsgenie automatically through the integration.

Installing the Plugin

  1. Download the appropriate version of plugin according to your Graylog version.

  2. Copy the .jar file into your plugins folder, as explained here.

  3. Restart graylog-server.

Add Graylog integration in Opsgenie

If you're using Opsgenie's Free or Essentials plan or if you’re using Opsgenie with Jira Service Management's Standard plan, you can add this integration from your team dashboard only. The Integrations page under Settings is not available in your plan.

  1. Go to Teams and select your team.

  2. Select Integrations on the left navigation and then select Add integration.

Adding the integration from your team dashboard will make your team the owner of the integration. This means Opsgenie will assign the alerts received through this integration to your team only. Follow the rest of the steps in this section to set up the integration.

  1. Go to Settings > Integrations. Search for Graylog and select Add

  2. Specify who is notified of Graylog alerts using the Responders field. Auto-complete suggestions are provided as you type.

  3. Copy the integration API Key. Use this in the Graylog configuration.

  4. Select Save Integration.

Configuration on Graylog

  1. In Graylog, go to Alerts and select Manage Notifications.

  2. Select Add new notification.

  3. Under Notification Type, select Legacy alarm callbacks.

  4. Then, select Legacy OpsGenie alarm callback under Choose Legacy Notification.

  5. Select Add alert notification and select Save.

  6. Paste the API URL copied previously into the Opsgenie API Url field and the API key copied previously into the Opsgenie API Key field. You can also add Priority, Teams, and Tags.

  7. Select Save.
